Heading into this wedding season, it will be my 7th year documenting weddings.
And each year, after reflecting back on the wedding season, I understand on a deeper level what my role is as a photographer. Yes, it’s to take beautiful photos during sunset. Yes, it’s to photograph the tables, cake, and all the details you spent months planning.
But more importantly, I’m there to document the hundreds of unique relationships that exist at every wedding. The moments that happen throughout the day that absolutely no one could plan for or try and pose. That’s the work that makes this job so wonderful, and those are the photos at the end of the day, that my couples really care about.
Hayley & Kevin’s wedding was just one of those days where everything clicked. No one was rushed the entire day, after being covered in clouds most of the evening, the sun popped through the horizon at the perfect time for sunset portraits, and Justin Timberlake’s Senorita came on at the perfect time on the dance floor for a guys vs gals battle. The day was perfect.
As I learn more each year about what really matters on the wedding day, I’d like to dedicate this post to Kevin’s Dad. You’ll see photos of him trickled throughout this blog post. Crossing the road with his grandson, tearing up watching his son give the best man speech, and twirling his granddaughter on the dance floor late into the evening. So much love to Hayley & Kevin, and their entire families <3
